CT kinda blew his credibility and an editorship some years back by allegedly publishing a test of a gun he'd never actually had posession of according to the manufacturer.

Don't know the grimy details, simply read the straight reportage of his "no longer being associated with..." and the reason. Could have been an instance of somehow getting a toolroom prototype that wasn't made of appropriate materials for actual use...which would explain the lousy performance. However, if a product tanks, you owe the manufactuer the courtesy of discussing the issue prior to publishing the report.

There's been at least one incidient where a publication actually did firing tests, which went superbly, of a demo piece. When they called to congratulate the manufacturer-prepublication- on an outstanding product, the manufacturer was horrified that they'd shot it. It wasn't intended for actual use.
