The S serial number M28s are from about 1961 to some time in 1969 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The diamond targets went to about 1967 so they could be right for your gun. The gun could have been ordered with the targets stocks, only a S&W letter would tell you. Have you taken the grips off and looked for any numbers stamped into the wood? I don't think the targets were usually stamped but you never know till you look.
The S serial number is some what more desirable just because it is an earlier gun If you post the serial number with xx as the last two digits we can tell what year it came from.
I still think you're looking at about $400 to $500.
Edit to say if you shoot this gun you might become a S&W revolver guy. They are usually great shooters.
