Both the adjustable sight and the Novak type fixed sight were available from the beginning of production. First gen magazines have a yellow follower, late production magazines are white follower and marked "accu guide" on the mag body. IIRC S&W produced the 1006 from 1990 through 1993, a second run of 1006 was done at some time in the late 1990's and these are different in appearance. Most notably the trigger and hammer are blue/black in the later production run.

I have an adjustable sight 1006, I thought I really wanted the fixed sight pistol but this one has grown on me very nicely.
