Good luck on your hog/sheep safari!!
We have been using the 357 marlin and 158 grain XTP for hogs and wounded deer for several seasons with good results at the short ranges normally encountered(<50 yds).
The 180 gr. XTP or Nosler Partition backed by 15 grains of Lil'gun provides a bit more hammer and might be preferred in the event you ran into a larger than normal hog. Just a thought. I've loaded a few of these and accuracy is on a par with the 158's. Velocity around 1600 as I recall. Haven't had an opportunity to test them on a 300# hog.
