S&W offered a Model 29-3 with a 3-inch barrel in 1985. It was called the "44 Combat Magnum".

EMK's 44 Magnum with a 4 1/2-inch barrel was made by cutting down a 6 1/2-inch gun. S&W only shipped one Model 29-2 (in 1963) with a special order 4 1/2-inch barrel. It was also made by cutting the barrel on a 6 1/2-inch gun and the factory charged extra for doing so.
