I sold a lot of Smith & Wessons back in that time frame, I worked for a sporting goods shop in Wichita. I remember the presentation cases coming in a separate cardboard box from the box the gun was in. Maybe not always, but I do remember that.
OP: Gorgeous gun, I think S&W must have put their nicest grips on the nickel guns.
