Similar Problem -- Averted (hopefully)
Just took delivery of a brand new 442 -- noticed the pin holding the ejector lock-up assembly was protruding excessively to the right side. Carefully adjusted the pin and "punched" it back near flush. FYI, I've attended two armorer training programs -- one sponsored by S&W. Hopefully that minor adjustment will solve any future issues. FYI, I own several J, K, L and N frames (also pre-1980) -- never had an issue -- not one. S&W QC has taken a bit of a nose dive.
