Just a guess, but changing the trigger pull radically (v.s. the rather small increment the Apex kit provides) may be a liability issue for S&W. I.e., going from 8# to 4# or something like that. (I always worry about guys who change Glocks from the New York trigger, or swap in the lighter setup on a PPS.... I wasn't aware you could do that at all with the M&P, though. IANAL, but I think the Apex is in the "barely noticeable" category with respect to the weight. The other advantages are where it's at....)

OTOH, raising the trigger pull.... ....

(I have an old Combat Commander that I inherited from a guy with Diabetic Neuropathy. He had it set at about 10#! I could shoot it, but getting it back to reality was necessary. In his case, he had the necessary strength/control, but couldn't feel a standard 1911 trigger....)
