And yes, the recoil is *impressive*. I even ordered the 500 grips from the S&W store right after I bought the gun....and even with those the recoil has a nasty bite. But this is pure self protection and the ocassional camping trip firearm for me...not a plinker... I also own the 340pd .357 J frame scandium and I don't think the recoil is as bad in that gun as it is the .44 mag.
