Here in upstate New York, my FFL dealer charges $35 to ship either a handgun or a long gun and that includes the Postal shipping charges. Insurance adds about $1.25 per $100 of value.

He does a landslide business since he is just a few miles from Fort Drum. When the soldiers are deployed to Afghan, they ship their personal guns to their home or to friends.
All in all a fair price since he also packs the guns for shipping.
