My major problem is the ship date puts the gun in the era of the factory records that are in limbo so a letter request will only yield me the ship date, which I already have!
I believe some of the confussion with the model marked guns of the mod 30 & mod 31 comes from the fact the mod 30 was dropped in 1976 but the mod 31 was the last 32 made and was not dropped until 1991.

jcelet, thanks very much for correcting my end date for the Model 31 to 1991. I want to ackowledge here for all so they know your date is the correct one. I hate when I put out confuising info. I confused the ending date with the end of the 'H' serial number series which ended in 1983. In 1984 the three letter serial numbers began.

What do you mean by "ship date puts the gun in the era of the factory records that are in limbo"?

Your model marked 33 should be a Model of 1953 2nd Immprovement I frame. Therefore it was made between 1957 and 1961 (when the 33-1 was introduced on the J frame). However it could be a J frame with the -1 left off. I have a Model 34 like that! If that's the case, and it has a flat latch, it was made anytime between 1961 and 1966. If not a flat latch but with 'diamond' grips, it was made between 1966 and 1968.
Is it an I or J frame?
