If you're not adverse to reasonably priced wood, you might consider Mustang or Jay Scott. They look similar and cover both the front and rear grip frames for a "handful" feel. Used ones are generally available at about the same price as new rubber grips. Check Ebay or post a WTB here and you should be able to find a set at an attractive price.
Here's a set of Jay Scott grips on an N-frame, which is only slightly larger than your L-frame.
