I mentioned the Bronco II as my main reason for not buying new vehicles anymore. Not as it being a truck.
I would agree that most new vehicles are just wonderful. But if (or when) you get a bad one the fun has just begun. Nothing like going into debt and making payments on a vehicle that won't run.
Possibly one other reason I don't buy new:
