I block sanded the finish until the pitted finish was smooth.
The large wide areas were polished with a wide cloth wheel on a die grinder, and the smaller, hard to reach areas were done with a dremel.
Like what has been said here many times, if the dremel isn't used correctly, you can end up having a wavy finish because the dremel polishing wheels are too small and hard and will groove the finish if not careful.

I have been polishing metal since the mid 70s, and have learned alot over the years.

This is what I startred with, and feel I had very little to loose in trying to improve the beauty of this pistol, considering the gouges in the finish..

It shoots as well as it looks, if not better!
