That may have something to do with the 5R rifling Smith is using in the Sport barrel. That's the same rifling that the Army's M24 sniper rifle uses. Also, the melonite treatment of the barrel bore is not a lining, so it doesn't cause dimensional changes like chrome lining.
I suppose that you could say that the Sport barrel rifling is milspec - for a sniper rifle.
