Got my Life around 1958 or so. Paid $12.50 every 3 months til the $100 was paid. Was Life until a few years ago, then went Endowment. Don't begrudge the NRA wanting a few bucks every once in a while. As was mentioned above, it's the only game in town. P.S. In 1958 I was grossing 100 bucks a week. Take home was much less as I was a single man.
