Anyone ever see a setup like this before ? I have K frame sights mounted all the way to the rear of the slide on my 39-2(actually Millett sights), and like it better than the original sights.
Never seen it done on a 1911, though ........

This was quite the rage back in the 60's and 70's. Cooper and Skeeter talked about it. Kings Gun Works did lots of them and Cylinder and Slide also advertised them.

I was shooting IPSC back in the 80's (local club is all) and S&W sights on a 1911 were the hot setup. Back in those days you could shoot IPSC with a stock out of the box gun, but most people did little stuff to them like that.

Back in the mid 70's I had Jim Hoag install S&W adjustable sight on my Series 70 Colt and put a red ramp insert in the front sight. The gun was also armolloyed and a wide spur hammer installed too. I wish I had the gun back.:(

I had a Commander done done by King's in the 70s. Never should have sold it. Wonder if my brother would trade it back?

Austin Behlert did the K-frame sights on my 39-2 back in 1980, along with a trigger job. The trigger never fails to get compliments from other shooters ........

S&W 'K' Sights, Bomars and melted Micros! Those were the days.
Somewhere I have a set of 'J' sights that are going on one of the High Powers.
This was back in the days when this was the only way to get low profile adj sights on a 1911. Full target sights were to tall to work in a holster. Some tried Cols' GOLD CUP pistols but found the sights would shear off using full power ammo.

Ii believe Armand Swenson also used some S&W sights on 1911's.
When I was in high school I put a set of S&W sights on a 1911 slide, worked pretty well. Those were the days when you didn't go to jail for taking gun parts to school shop class. Most interesting part of that project was that my shop teacher offered to sell me a sawed-off shotgun...!

Could you post a picture of your 39? I am very interested in that setup. Thank you.

In the early '70s I SO wanted a Swenson 1911 with the Smith rear sight. I shot one in LA in '72 and fell in love (sounds weird, going to LA to shoot, but true).

The one I wanted was hard chromed, had a squared trigger guard, and a K frame rear sight with a ramped front sight and the single safety. But I never could get the money together. I think the total with shipping and three fitted mags was around $400.

The setup is a little dated. The rear sight wouldn't take a lot of abuse and there are better choices now. But there is nothing that looks more cool.

I know that set-up is a little dated, but then, so am I ! I served in the Navy from 1970 through 1980, so you could say it's a reminder of my younger days .........
This will be my first 1911, but I have a feeling it won't be lonely too long in with all the N and K frames !

They were very "in" among IPSC shooters back in the 1960-1980s. I recall there were problems with them holding up however due to the different stresses (?) generated by an auto slide.

I have always liked the way that combo looked.
Never owned one but I guess there's still time.

A couple years ago somebody at the range had a bunch of .45s he was showing off. The one I picked up was a Commander with S&W revolver sights. Nice gun.

I agree that they do look sweet. they look great on a Hi Power too. Never could afford one back when these were the thing. Now I wonder if you could find a smith that could do the job. A full house Swenson for $400! Imagine if you could do that today!!

The S&W sights were also popular on Custom High Powers.

My first 1911 was an Acccurized Hardball gun with Bomar sights.

So, I just continued to have them put on my carry guns.

They are still my favorite sight.
