Default .38 hand and spring

To remove the trigger guard, hold the frame upside down by the grip and tap the lower rear edge of the triggerguard forward with a plastic or hardwood mallet, cuasing the rear of the guard to jump out of its seat in the frame. Pull the trigger all the way to the rear. The trigguard may now be moved rearward slightly to disengage its front tab from the frame. Tilt the front of the triggerguard down and push forward to remove. The trigger spring is now free and can be removed with the triggerguard. Make not of its position for reassembly. I would highly suggest purchasing David R. Chicoine Antique Firearms assembly/disassembly if you are going to work on Antique S&W Guns. He details it on a step by step istructions with pictures. His phone number is 704-853-0265 to order the book. The price is around $30.00 and it is a must for working on those guns.
