That's sort of the way I was. I wanted one, and fully expected to pay 600-650 or so based on what I'd seen online. I had never actually seen one in person that I knew of.
My wife and I were on vacation in Illinois back in June, and I saw that someone had posted on this forum that my favorite gun store had one in their case. I called and got them to hold it for me, sight unseen. I told them I'd be home in a day or two.
When I got there I found that not only was it in great shape it was a 1953 Combat Masterpiece, five screw. They were asking $499.00. Trying to be cool, I offered $450.00. They replied they couldn't take less than $460.00. "Well, I guess I won't lose it over $10.00." I replied.
