Most don't really consider the .30 carbine to be a pistol caliber. It's performance is above typical handgun classifications, but it's not quite a chest thumping rifle cartridge either. It's, well, a carbine caliber. Something in the middle, kind of a one off. Sure, there have been a couple of handguns chambered in .30 carbine, but that was after the fact.
I find the .30 carbine to be a interesting round and fun shoot as mated to the M1 carbine.
