Actually, if they develop a problem, such as the loss of a command/data link, they are programmed to return to the launch base. The drone displayed by the Iranian media has damage consistent with a wheels up landing, not a hard crash as would occur with a loss of control or thrust. Could Iran have jammed the command link, it's possible, but it could also have been a number of other reasons. The real concern is the selling of the technology to other countries (Russia and China) and the possibility of reverse engineering.
