OK, my comment was poorly written. It is true if you read the owners manual and follow the field stripping directions as holy writ.

HOWEVER: S&W did install the sear disconnect lever so that: 1. The field stripping directions do not include the need to pull the trigger. 2. Using the sear disconnect lever forces one to lock or hold the slide in the open position and clear the chamber. 3. The sear disconnect lever lowers the sear so it cannot engage the striker.

I will also note that using the trigger to release the slide may work, it shows a poor regard for following directions.
