The "whole scheme of things' is that Taylor is a S&W licensee to produce knives with the S&W logo, etc. However this effort has resulted in a flood of such knives in the market, some of which were not selected by S&W management for official S&W distribution, although they carry the S&W markings. Taylor submits multiple knife styles to S&W for selection of approved knives. Many of the knives not selected, then make their way to the aftermarket distributors. A serious collector of S&W approved knives faces a real challenge in ferreting out "real" S&W knives from the many variations on the market, as frequent personnel changes in the licensing unit at S&W over the last few years ,with no emphasis on record keeping, leaves authentication as a perilous exercise.
