AndrewS, did you have a snap cap in place for those dry fires? From everything I've read it's not a good idea to dry fire rim fires as it may damage the firing pin with no soft brass to cushion the strike.
Not sure if it would take 10 or 1000 dry fires, S&W customer support advises against it.
