I talked with him several times and examined some of his guns. He used G.W. Stone's custom sheath knives, and we all three spent an enjoyable afternoon at G.W.'s shop one day when I was there to interview Stone for an article in a knife title. Bill just drove in from Shreveport and dropped by.

He mentioned using one of those knives to open up 28 head of African big game without sharpening it. G.W. took one of his knives and banged it edge first into a metal column in his shop without damage. He had a unique heat treatment that stood his products in good stead. He used 440C steel, but got better results from it than most knifemakers back then did.

Bill had a S&W M-59 with him that day. He did own autos, although generally preferring revolvers.

Gad, he was fast with a gun! Most people seeing him on film would think the camera was speeded up for Hollywood special effects.
