IF it matters, the finish is a darker, more 'coarse' gray, than the typical light matte 'vapor hone'. The S/N is also 'boxed off', setting it off to the eye from the background matte.

Victor, I paid $400 for my 2 " RB with box a few years ago on this forum. It wasn't NIB but close. I would like to see pics of your gun if you could post them. According to the book, the 2 inchers are the rarest of the Smith and Wesson Model 64 NY-1's. Here's mine:
