I have an M&P 22 and think it is great. Its almost 100% reliable with cheap bulk pack ammo. I think if you want a full sized 22 you would not be disappointed in the M&P. The Ruger is on my short list also but some say I have WAY too many .22s.... I will be waiting for a threaded barrel option though. One thing I see as an advantage on the Ruger vs the S&W is the exposed hammer and double strike capability. A not well known option you should check out is the Bersa Thunder 22/Firestorm FS22. Although its my cheapest new gun purchase at $240, it remains my favorite 22 pistol. They are DA/SA like the Ruger, look good, all metal construction (aluminum frame, steel slide) still light weight, and reliable with most bulk pack ammo. And most holsters/accessories for the Bersa Thunder 380 also work for the 22.
