Reloder 22 is way too slow for Garand loads. Unless you add a Schuster or other adjustable gas plug, that is.
This is all about the correct pressure curve at the gas port. Get it wrong and you can damage your $$$ op-rod.
OTOH, Varget is just about the perfect burn rate for Garands, as is 4895, with which the M2 load was developed. I use Varget in mine with great results.
Recommend that you get a Hornady Manual. It has a whole section on Garand loads.
