Here's an idea. On the big blank spot on the non-ejection port side of the DM lower, you can take it to an engraver and put something special there for your boys. I think that would be cooler than a S&W roll mark.

Also, you can stockpile the parts to build a complete rifle. Prep them for long term storage, and put them away. When the boys are big enough to understand & remember, assemble the rifles together.

IMO, it's the memories & the little touches that make the rifle memorable. They'll be able to say, "This rifle... me and my dad put this together just for me...see the engraving? Man that was cool."
