I had a Browning .22 auto called the Challenger years ago. It did indeed jam quite a bit.
I use a Ruger MK II. It usually works.
Frankly, for a camping gun, I'd pick a more powerful item, unless you also want to have a .22 along for plinking and small game. You never know what you'll need to shoot in the woods! I think a .357 with four-inch barrel is about ideal.
