Default trigger pull length

I have polished the trigger parts, removed the pigtail spring, and replaced the sear spring with a lighter one and that has helped the trigger pressure issue but now i would like to tackle this crazy trigger travel length. I have tried to find information on how to fix it but have come up with nothing so i started looking at how it works and I am wondering if filing/sanding down the top of the part in the picture would do the trick. It seems to me that when the trigger is pulled this part is pushed back and down until the surface on the hammer slips off and strikes the primer. I am obviously not a gunsmith and I tried to find the proper terminology for these parts so that I could do a better job of describing myself but came up with nothing so i included the picture. hopefully somebody understands what I am saying and offer some input. Thanks!
