The first cannonball fired at Fort Sumter to start the War of the Northern Aggression (aka Civil War) sits on a marble pedestal on the southeast corner of the Courthouse square in Thomaston, Georgia. P. W. Alexander, a noted correspondent during the war and a citizen of Upson County, retrieved it.
