I think that a too light rebound slide spring would prevent the trigger from going back to its rest position. But would not prevent the hammer from cocking (it would ease the push off, nevertheless).

Can't you lift the gun up above your head, side plate off, right side turned towards the floor, and have a better look at what it does when you try to cock the hammer ? Looking is better than guessing...
