I have a Model 64 with that is DAO (bobbed hammer, etc.) and supposedly it is a factory job. Anybody know if that service was really offered on 64s and, if so, does it add or detract from the value of the gun?

Thanks,

I have a 64-5 NY-1 that came that way. Allegedly made for the NYPD and some armored car companies.

I picked up a couple of them a few years back when J&G Sales had them for about $225 each, I wish I'd bought several more. One of them gets carried off duty in a shoulder holster quite a bit these days, the trigger is about as good as it gets. I have 6 or 7 K-frames, and they all have good DA triggers, but this one was apparently shipped as a DAO gun, and it's better than the rest.

They make awesome shooters, and don't cost a lot.

Some LEO departments specified when they ordered SERVICE REVOLVERS such as the model 64, TO BE DAO.

All of the Brinks Security orders in Ohio are/were DA M64's. Technically not "DAO" as one could (with a lot of finagling) cock the hammer. I have one of the last ones, part of an unsold overrun from the armorer's last order when Brinks went to semi-autos in 2007. And a snubby to boot!

Yes, allot of these were made to order by S&W for various police departments. Just a few years ago, JG sold off hundreds of these police trade in's cheap. My buddies and I bought 16 ourselves. The price and quality was that good.
