Well - - - I respect the man for wanting to protect others, but there are a few problems with this.

First of all, there is no 'school gun problem'. The event which happened recently is a horrible tragedy, but highly rare and unlikely to occur. Youre more likely to be hit by lightening than be involved in such an event. (Research the number of victims of such mass shootings over the last 10 years in the US versus those struck by lightening).

Secondly, while his actions may make him feel better - it isnt particularly sound tactically. He has no weapon. His location is obvious since he's in a uniform. If a shooter were to come to the school (highly unlikely, see above) did he think he would just scare him away because he is in uniform ?

What would be far more effective is the end of the "No Gun Zone" law and allowing citizens who legally concealed carry to be on school grounds. A potential attacker (again, highly unlikely to happen) would not know who is or is not armed. In places like Israel and Switzerland where citizens are armed, schoolyards are safer. John Lott has proven in his work that places are safer when there are citizens carrying concealed.

A common factor with just about all the mass shooting events was that the shooter was taking psychiatric drugs which can increase the odds of suicidal and violent behavior. Thats where investigation should focus. Even some combat troops are on such drugs today, and the suicide rates of our troops are unsually high now.

I agree with others that I don't want to see America turned into some armed camp with guards on every corner and on every highway. Especially to 'keep us safe' from unlikely events. All that is guaranteed from that is the loss of our Liberty. Liberty - - - isn't that the point and the real vision of America ?

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - - - Benjamen Franklin

The Marine should put his uniform away and push to get No Gun Zone laws repealed. Then visit the school in low profile civvies with his CPL and appropriate sidearm in a IWB holster that doesnt print.

Emotional responses aren't effective. Smart responses are effective.
