This is just my thinking but I would not try taking any lower caliber firearm and converting it to a higher caliber firearm.

Take some 40cal firearms they can be converted to 9mm with a simple barrel swap. The 99% of the time the same cant be done with a 9mm to 40 conversion
Composite has come a long way, they even have composite lowers for .223's now as well. Sales guy told me it was the same composite as in the glock, but I I can't verify the validity of that. It probably feels weaker because it's a larger area of polymer and thinner so it acts different.
