when hand cycling my SD40 VE much prefers rather "violent" slide racking. if I am "gentle" it doesn't cycle well...when hand cycling don't try to ease the slide at all...pull back sharply and let it go in one fluid motion...as if the gun were doing it when fired. or try using the slide release and see how it does...
