Several questions. Is the pistol marked as a "Stoeger" Luger or does it have only the Houston manufacturer's address? What is the date on top? Does it come with the box and papers or only the pistol alone?

Stainless Lugers have a reputation for variable quality. Some owners claim that their pistols are made of soft steel. If the gun is used, the former owner may have disposed of it for functioning problems. Personally, I have an earky stainless model without "Stoeger" markings. Mine functions fine and is quite accurate. I don't shoot it much but consider it as a very pretty and finely made collectible.

If you can't test fire it you are taking a chance that you are buying a pretty boat anchor that will cause nothing but trouble. On the other hand, if you are buying it because it is attractive and unique it may be okay. Real German "shooter" Lugers are available in the $500 - $800 range and are great fun at the range. That may be the way you want to go.

Best
