Personally I don't need a mag loader for my M&P 22, the wife also shoots and it's a little easier on her hands/fingers. I have the little piece of plastic loader called "brass stacker" and it works just fine.
I just purchased an M&P 9 full size and you get no mag loader. Not sure if any gun comes with one. I do use and need the Uplula for the 9mm though. Maybe I'm a weakling, but those mags have some pretty strong springs in them.
