It's really a shame that S&W went to that design on the gen 3 guns. There was nothing wrong with the conventional two-piece grips on the gen 2, and it would have opened up a greater aftermarket had they remained that way for a couple decades. But the design is, by its very nature, totally limiting. Hogue is one of the best in the business, but even they can't get around the design requirements, and thus, their grips are just too big and bulky for the G3 Smiths. I too, have rather large hands, and still can't get comfortable with the wood grips I had previously tried on my 4506 and 6906.

The stock plastic grips are extremely thin. Too bad they're horrible to actually touch and hold...
