I usually just stop talking. If something needs to be said I will slightly raise my voice and interrupt what ever they went off about. My girl friends family is very emotional/excitable. If they get an idea or an emotion they will just run with it no matter how crazy or completely false it is. They will start yelling over who ever is talking and then just go rambling on.
