The 686-4 and earlier ones are just better revolvers and knowledgeable buyers seek them out. They can still be obtained for usually less than the cost of a new 686, and if well maintained will always go up in value. The new ones are decent, serviceable revolvers but not the same fit and finish or overall quality.
