Correct me if I'm wrong, but the rear rails support the slide in its horizontal, rearward movement...and not side to side, or up and down, right?

I've never read of any slide/frame failures (which doesn't mean there hasn't been one, but it must not be common, if it occurs at all.) I assume S&W engineers came up with a competent design, or it would show problems arising.
