There's a lot of debate about polymer vs steel guide rods, and while there have been some instances in which polymer guide rods have broken or shown wear, by and large it comes down to personal preference. I for one don't care for polymer guide rods, so if possible, I replace them with steel guide rods on any pistols I own, and use the stock recoil spring.

I put a Galloway stainless steel recoil spring assembly in my SD9VE, using the stock spring weight.
