This article only addresses the old model Blackhawks. The standard grips used on the XR3-RED frames until the advent of the new models in 1973 were smooth walnut, although special order grips of other materials were available. I do have two Vaqueros; one a stainless 45C/45ACP made in 2004 and a 45C Bisley made in 1997. Both have smooth walnut grips. I'm not up to speed on the newer smaller frame models. Perhaps someone else can answer your question there.
