Actually, S&W used a 1-8 twist(I believe they've went to 1-9 now) Melonite treated barrel for the first Sports with a 5R rifling which is a great combo for accuracy with 55-70+ grain bullets. I own one and it works well for me as a entry level AR.

$600 is a good price. Gives you more money for ammo. Before you spend a lot of money on gizmos, learn how to shoot the gun just as you receive it. It's addictive. I'm happy I re-load for it.
