I believe you are correct. I am not a warfighter, I was of age during the Vietnam conflict and went to college instead of to war. As far as the dust cover goes, my M&P Sport works just fine without one. It has the 1/8 5R barrel and is accurate. I installed a 13" VTAC Troy floating handguard and all ambi controls (I am LH), MBUS gen 2 sights and I am good to go. Eventually a SSA trigger and an Aimpoint Pro and it will be even better. Right now I am using it to develop my gunhandling skills with the M4 weapon system. Shooting drills with the M&P15 Sport is great fun.
