IMO, the cost cutting:
  • Integral Trigger Guard - one less assembly operation
  • No Forward Assist - less assembly, less part cost
  • Heavy Barrel - no profile cuts in the barrel means less manufacturing cost
  • Melonite Treated Barrel - less complicated manufacturing process
  • Magpul Polymer Rear Sight - less expensive than metal
  • Handguards - no heat shields
