A large part of that blast is a byproduct of the compensated barrel. I have a Glock 31 and an M&P pro in 357 sig and while not pop gun like, the blast and sound level is no more than most 40 S&W protection ammo produces. Love the round. As an aside, if you reload your own, you can load them down to 9mm performance for range plinking.
To me, one of the best thing about the 357 Sig is the ability to go back and forth between the 40S&W with just a barrel change.
