We have both! My husband prefers the ruger, I the s&w! My hands are smaller than my husband's, and the sd9 feels more comfy in my hand than the ruger.

Another perk for me is the sd9 actually has a little bit less recoil than the ruger. It's not a huge difference, but both my husband and I can tell the difference.
